At the EMPA R&D Center, we believe in testing new ideas in practice and under conditions as close to reality as possible before bringing them to life. For this purpose, we conduct PoC (Proof of Concept) projects to evaluate the feasibility of the technologies we are working on.
PoC studies are the most critical step in demonstrating whether an idea is technically and practically feasible. During this process, we test the core functions of the design and observe the system’s real-world performance. Early-stage validation reduces both technical and financial risks and accelerates the development process.
After completing the PoC, we transform the resulting knowledge and experience into demo projects. Demos are operational example systems prepared for specific sectors or application areas. At the EMPA R&D Center, PoCs and demos are not separate—they are two links in the same learning chain. PoCs validate ideas, while demos make these ideas visible. Ultimately, both serve as tangible outcomes of our “learning by experimentation” approach.
